8 Mile / Empire- To begin, this movie has a great beginning; it pulled me right into it.This is something not usually seen in movies of this type, so it makes it an unusual, yet pleasant experience.The action scenes are really great. Eminem played his role great. Kim Basinger actually caught my interest.

I think Eminem and Kim Basinger worked wonderful in 8 Mile / Empire. The great supporting cast includes Eminem, Kim Basinger, Mekhi Phifer, Brittany Murphy, Evan Jones.

All in all, I would rate this movie an 8.5/10. I would definitely watch this movie again.

Few of the other characters even register in the familiar underworld tale (though Denise Richards has fun as a bubbly, skin-deep seductress) and Reyes’s flashy style is as distracting as it is energizing. It’s the smoldering presence of Leguizamo that keeps the film centered through the betrayals, the bullet-riddled battles, and the slow realization that this cunning shark has just become bait in the deep seas of high finance. –Sean Axmaker

Wow! I really loved the movie Image of an Assassination - A New Look at the Zapruder Film. The movie is absolutely stunning with top-notch graphics and visuals while Peter Dean deliver some award-winning performances in this movie. I also think Jack Franzen (II) was great! The visuals and graphics make for some very realistic on screen special-effects but that is the beauty of the movie.When the movie wants to be funny it is funny, the same is true for when the movie needs to deliver its scary aspects.

This first commercially available video version of the legendary 26-second “Zapruder Film”–the 8mm record of John F. Kennedy’s 1963 assassination, which was filmed by Abraham Zapruder–provoked a storm of controversy when it first appeared on video shelves. Added to the National Film Registry in 1994, this historical document remains a significant record of one of the nation’s most devastating events and is still cited as a key piece of evidence in the debate over the truth of Kennedy’s murder. This unprecedented release has been digitally mastered with the approval of the Zapruder family. An accompanying documentary, which explores the mastering process in detail, features a short portrait of Zapruder and a fascinating history of the film’s official and unofficial showings up to the present. The premiere issue of this DVD magazine emphasizes Circuit’s commitment to peering behind the curtains of contemporary rock & roll. Start cute with a visit by Swedish rockers the Cardigans to an upscale bowling alley, accompanied by four different cuts of the band’s dark and controversial video for “My Favorite Game.” Dig a little deeper with an excerpt from Banks Tarver’s documentary about the exemplary Dayton indie group Guided By Voices, whose weathered, late-30s members are seen at one point looking as fresh as Hanson in an ancient photograph. The post-Bill Berry R.E.M. celebrates its techno-heavy album Up; separate interviews with Mike Mills, Peter Buck, and Michael Stipe go into some detail about the band’s reinvention during the making of the densely layered, melancholy record. A live performance by Grant Lee Buffalo is preceded by footage of a sound check–totally unnecessary to see, of course, but pretty cool all the same. The most interesting piece in this anthology, however, is a black-and-white interview with Beck (conducted by an off-screen, robotic voice), who illuminates the mysteries behind his songwriting process and reveals he once lived without electricity for 15 weeks. (Thus all those acoustic songs.) There are also interviews with Cake, producer Paul Kimble, and the Stooges’ Ron Asheton. Less compelling, perhaps, is an anachronistic video for Rialto’s drippy “5:19 (Monday Morning),” but you take the bad with the good. In this case there’s plenty of the latter, and with alternate soundtracks and DVD-ROM features, this premiere issue takes full advantage of DVD’s potential. –Tom Keogh

It is only natural to be scared of zombies, and to prevent them from laying waste to your home. A more relaxing approach, however, is to be bored and vaguely annoyed by them, or, better still, not to notice them in the first place. This is the premise of Edgar Wright’s British comedy, which may be responsible for kicking off a new and specialized genre of slacker horror. Shaun (Simon Pegg) lives a supremely uneventful life, which revolves around his girlfriend (Kate Ashfield), his mother (Penelope Wilton), and, above all, his local pub. This gentle routine is threatened when the dead return to life and make strenuous attempts to snack on ordinary Londoners. The finale, in which the pub turns into an Alamo, is the bloodiest, most orthodox, and least witty part of the movie; far sharper are the early scenes in which Shaun wanders happily to the local store along a battered, zombie-dotted street and pulps his attackers with a cricket bat. The central joke is so snappy and well sustained that you barely catch sight of the ominous vision on offer: a country that already feels like death. -Anthony Lane
